THE CHALLENGES IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

There are so many challenges and ideas that have to consider in tourism and hospitality industry in Malaysia. For example, in term of accommodation, entertainment, attraction, sport, transportation, and theme parks. Moreover, tourism is not very effected by economic downturn because people still spend their money to having fun and they don’t shopping when travel because they want spend time with their family. 

Other challenges that we must take it serious is the improvement of technology which makes people very advance in doing something. Technology is always change. Now a days, there are so many thing that missing in relationship management. The important thing that all people in this industry must have is communicating skill, the way you dress and the way how you approach people.  If we do not improve interpersonal skill, technology will take over.

Besides, tourism is very demanding in service. The service must have to satisfy to all customer, always do an improvement to provide a better service to customer. Do a research about what customer needs and want. Then, do a loyalty program because new customer is always increase day by day. 

En Zainal is a Chief Executive Officer of Destinations, Themed Attractions Resorts and Hotels Sdn. Bhd (TARH). He had faced many challenges in order to become success in this industry. Some of his advices is, to manage all this and gain success we have to really love on what we are doing to make sure we will enjoy doing the job and does not feel any stress. Then, we must love to dealing with people and handle them. Customer is not always right but we have to handle them like they are always right.  Give them a best service and try to fulfill all their needs and wants.

The advice to people who want to enter or work in this industry is, they must have positive mental attitude. It is very important when dealing with people because people have different needs and wants. The important of positive mental attitude have shown by percent of importance which is for mental positive attitude is 85% and for knowledge 15%. Student must gain knowledge in university but attitude is the most important.

People must to be patient to achieve success. Student now a days, they lack of confident and poor communication skills.  They must take the opportunity in university to improve communication skill and built a high confident level when do a presentation in class or event in university. Confident is very important to portrays all your characters. You can also join university academic staff to become consultant. Then, you have to set the desire what you want to be in the future and built your confident and become success person.
